This spring when I was clearing a trail in the side woods I came across a nest high up in a tree. The babies watched me every day. Then they flew from the nest and I would see them near my neighbor's pond next to me. They look like the second picture now and have long necks. I thought they might be bitterns but the call they make is not that of a bittern. So I don't know what they are. Do you? The second picture was from last week.
